When you go to Udaipur, there is one attraction that you should not miss: the beautiful City Palace. This beautiful complex is located on the shores of Lake Pichola and consists of eleven palaces, built by different rulers in different eras. It is the largest palace in Rajasthan and, in my opinion, definitely one of the most beautiful.

The imposing structure, which is no less than 244 meters long, was built by Maharana Udai Singh II, the founder of the city. Construction began in 1599 and was regularly expanded by other Maharana's in the following centuries. The palace is made entirely of granite and marble and the architecture is a combination of Eureopean and Chinese styles. Nowadays parts of the palace have been converted into luxury hotel.
In the majestic complex you will find beautiful gates, beautiful rooms and detailed decorations - even the Dutch Delft blue can be found there! There are also various exhibitions where you can admire centuries-old vehicles, artworks and weapons. Also don't forget to regularly look out the window for a beautiful view of Lake Pichola.

You can enter the complex for 30 rupees per person. If you also want to visit the museum, you pay 300 rupees per person. Since the museum in particular is beautiful, I recommend not to skip it. The City Palace is the most visited building in Udaipur, so if you want to avoid the crowds, it's best to be there as early as possible.

Good to know The complex is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and the museum from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. We were there around 9 a.m. so that we could quietly take pictures of the outside and then be one of the first to enter the museum. But when we were then in the complex, it turned out that we could enter the museum immediately and that several people were already inside. On the official website and on the board at the checkout is really 9.30 am, but if you want to avoid the crowds, I definitely recommend to be there at 9 am to see if you can get in earlier. From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. it becomes extremely busy in the palace.
